About Helder's Keynote:
In this Keynote Address, Helder will describe the process of welcoming students when they arrive in Timor Leste for their immersive experience. Having had regular dialogue with the communities to be visited, Helder and the Caritas Dili team extend a message to Australian visitors that enables a mutually beneficial experience for both the visitors and their Timor Leste host communities.
Helder will explain the importance of relying on good formation of the group before they arrive, how to be mindful and respectful of cultural norms in each community and the importance to visiting to listen, learn and affirm the work of local communities. Stories from filed experiences with students will be highlighted the central tenant that both hosts and visits can learn together with open minds and generous hearts.
